When it comes to gaming laptops, Asus is definitely one of the most popular names to date. In fact, it has been hailed as the top manufacturer of gaming laptops in the world, selling over 1.2 million units in 2016. MSI is at second place, shipping around 850,000 devices in the same year. Apparently, Asus has no plans of stopping its domination in the industry of gaming laptops.

In India, the Taiwan-based electronics company is making waves as it manufactures and distributes some of the most affordable laptops for gamers. However, its competitors won’t easily give up the fight since they are also aiming to produce high-end yet fairly priced gaming laptops for the consumers. Considering the brewing competition in the gaming laptop industry, how will Asus dominate the market this year?

Asus and its Increasing Shares

Asus has set its eyes on acquiring 50 percent share of the country’s gaming laptop industry. This is revealed by Peter Chang, the Regional Head of Asus in South Asia and the Country Manager of Asus India. He said the company currently has a 30 percent market share. With its continuous focus on strengthening its sales, Asus will increase its shares as what they have expected. He further claimed that Asus is the major player in the gaming desktop segment in India.

Due to the surge and immense popularity of smartphones today, the market of gaming PC has neither decreased nor increased. However, the gaming PC industry in India, which covers desktop computers and laptops, shows a promising growth with a 30 percent increase every year. Comparably, gaming laptops have more shares than desktop computers.

According to Chang, around 2,000 to 3,000 gaming laptops are purchased within a month in India. Asus wants to take its chances in offering sophisticated units to gain better sales despite the poor overall PC market condition in the country. Apparently, it fell to 15 percent in 2016 from 17 percent in 2015. Asus is going to bet on producing gaming laptops with high functionalities and heavy on technical specifications, targeting computer gaming enthusiasts. The prices of the units will range from ₹70,000 to ₹200,000.

Moreover, Asus proves to be a well-known laptop choice as it sells over 20,000 laptops every month, while it generates two lakh smartphone units a month. Chang revealed that the company targets to increase the number of laptop sales to 30,000 units monthly, as well as the sales of smartphones, going up to four lakhs in a year.

Republic of Gamers and Launching of the World’s Most Powerful Laptop

As part of their strategy, Asus opened its very own gaming store called the Republic of Gamers in July 2016. The first and second establishments opened in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. The third shop was launched in February 2017 in Bangalore. The Republic of Gamers is typically a shop where gamers can find different types of gaming gadgets and other devices for their gaming habits. The company plans to establish 200 gaming shops across the country.

Aside from its exclusive stores, Asus recently launched its ROG GX800, which the company dubs as the most powerful gaming laptop in the world. Its best feature is its graphics with a cooling down system. It is VR-ready and boasts of providing a 4K Ultra high-resolution game-play, so you can expect to see clear images while playing. According to The Economic Times, its price is ₹7,97,990 and can only be purchased through requests. The new, highly advanced laptop became available in India in April 2017.

The Future of Gaming Industry in India

There is no use denying how successful Asus is in India. However, the competition may even get more intense as the country’s gaming industry is projected to reach ₹1 billion in 2021. The projection is based on the report of Statista. And according to reliable sources, the Indian gaming industry takes up one percent of the world market. The value last year was ₹30.8 billion, and with the hype of online games and the availability of the gadgets, the anticipated growth is likely to happen.
