Snapdragon 855 is the official name for SD8150, targeted 5G, manufactured by TSMC

Today, at Hawaii, QualComm has released its next version of processor with the upcoming 5G chip from Qualcomm.

From the news making the rounds, this SoC has been called Snapdragon 8150 and appeared in many news and technical benchmark sites. However, it was just internal testing name and in market it will be known as SD855 and this will come with 5G support.

This chip will be publicly called Snapdragon 855, a direct successor to this year’s flagship, Snapdragon 845.

In addition, it also revealed that the Snapdragon 855 will be built by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited)  and it will pride as the first Qualcomm chip to be built with the 7nm process.

Qualcomm SD855 adopts a three-cluster architecture. The CPU clock speed is 1.78 GHz, 2.42 GHz, and 2.84 GHz, respectively, and the graphics processing unit is Adreno 640.

Few days ago, Verizon and Moto Z3 successfully tested 5G connection using Snapdragon X50 modem which was attached via  Moto 5G Mod.

Soon , we will see some smartphones with this chip like Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, Google, OnePlus and Sony are all positioned to release a flagship smartphone with the Snapdragon 855 (SD855).

While coming ahead in the race, OnePlus CEO said, the will be first to build Smartphone using SD855 chipset.
