Renowned hacker raises concern about Aarogya Setu app security

Renowned hacker who goes by name Elliot Alderson on Twitter (FS0C131Y) has raised concern about Aarogya Setu app security. French security researcher Robert Baptiste, claims to have found a security flaw in the Indian government’s Aarogya Setu app that can potentially put the privacy of 91.3 million registered users at stake.

Aarogya Setu app is currently installed by more than 90 million Indian smartphone users as Government has made it mandatory for working companies.

Built on simple procedure of scanning your contact, location & keeping Bluetooth on always this app notifies users about potential contact with COVID-19 patients.

Yesterday evening, he shared a tweet by tagging Aarogya Setu official handle and mentioning Rahul Gandhi also.

Response of Indian Government

When alerted by this French Hacker (FSOCIETY), Aarogya Setu app team has published a note & responded to tweet which raised concern about Aarogya Setu App security.

Government team that handles development of Aarogya Setu app has discussed with the hacker and later released statement saying that there is nothing to worry and everything is as programmed and app is secure and no data breach is happened.

Tech industry leaders are afraid of government’s decision which says it will be company leaders responsibility to install & ensure their employee has installed Aarogya Setu and leaders will be held guilty if any of employee found without Aarogya Setu installed.

Response of Hacker on Government’s Response

Elliot Alderson has now been busy working on Aarogya Setu and even asking Indian users to share some Indian number to check app from start. Also he said, he will be sharing a detailed post about the vulnerabilities on app by today.

Recently, the data containing database of Reliance Jio COVID-19 checker tool is found without protection and millions of records were found at risk.
