Neighbourly App is initially launched as Early Access program in selected cities of India. This app is aimed to answer and help you find answers in your society. Even I have requested for access for my locality where it wasn’t available at the time of Launch.
Neighbourly Launch Date – 30 May 2018
Neighbourly App is released as beta app and initial version is launched on 30th May 2018 initially in Mumbai for selected localities. Then App itself has invite to your society button which worked in similar manner like JioFiber subscription. More the Invitation you get for selected society, more chances to get it listed.
Once your society is listed, then your neighbors living in that area can ask your question like shop reviews, where to find electrician kind of question. Limited to society and aimed to help the societies.
Well, later over the period, Google has improved Google Maps app and added made claiming new business easier, based on your timeline asked you to review shops. Question Answer feature added in the same page.
What made Neighbourly a Failure? What mistake did Google make?
However, Google announced that Neighbourly’s features are already available in Google Maps App and app usage is extremely low. So, Google decided to shut down Neighbourly App and focus resource on other products.
However, if we have to tell our opinion, the reason for the failure of app, this may be below.
- Google didn’t release it for public as Open project. As there were many users who are interested but app is not available for their society.
- Low promotion.
Neighbourly shut down date – 12th May 2020
Google has now officially announced that Neighbourly App will stop working on 12th May 2020.
Users have time of next 5 months to get the backup of their data. In a short life of less than 2 year, this app never made out of beta.
As of now, this App is download more than 10 Million plus.

- Your comments
- Content you liked
- Polls you voted on
- Your saved posts
- Content you reported
- Content you moderated

Well, this is not the first app being killed by Google. Earlier, Google Plus is closed for public even while it was doing average. But the data leak forced Google to shut down Google+ for general public.
