Microsoft has announced Windows 10 Insider Preview 14959 few days ago. Since we have reported the last build on Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14942 for PC, Microsoft has released three more builds which we did not covered here. But Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14959 has some major updates related to Windows platform.

What is new in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14959?

  1. Unified Update Platform: This is the entirely new thing Microsoft has announced last week by Bill Karagounis (Director of Program Management, Windows Insider Program & OS Fundamentals) at a blog post on Windows Blog. Few months ago, Google has announced that, they made changes in the way of packing archives or delivering their software (apk) files using algorithms to reduce the package size. Might be the similar concept, UUP is very similar technique which Microsoft will use to deliver OS updates in Windows 10 Platform. If you have been Windows Insider and specially from countries outside USA or UK, means you have slower internet connection, how tough is it to manage and install OS upgrades. I have been Windows Insiders since the early days 2011, of Developer Preview of Windows 8. Windows ISO files for 32 bits are around 2.7 GB for English version while 64 bit ISO files size around 3.2 GB. Downloading more than 2.5 GB from connection with speed of 1 or 2 mbps is not easy task. With the release of this build, Microsoft is introducing UUP, this technique will reduce the update file which is being transmitted using Internet. This will save lot of Internet Bandwidth and users time and is really a nice feature for Insiders like us who still have slower internet connection.
  2. Now you can control the scaling setting of virtual machines and Zoom option is added in Hyper-V menu control.
  3. We fixed an issue for Insiders resulting in the automatic brightness setting unexpectedly being turned off after upgrading. In doing so, we’ve re-enabled automatic brightness adjust for users that have never changed their auto-brightness setting. If you have already manually configured your auto-brightness setting, then this fix will not affect you. If you would like to enable or disable automatic brightness adjustment, please go to Settings > System > Display, where you can adjust your preferences.
  4. We fixed an issue Insiders on domain connected PCs may have experienced where login might fail when the computer was disconnected from its domain network.
  5. We fixed an issue resulting in certain apps, such as Outlook Mail and Calendar, failing to update for some Insiders with the error code 0x800700B7.
  6. We fixed an issue for Insiders with certain device models where ejecting an SD card might result in a system crash.
  7. We fixed an issue where disliking one of the Spotlight lock screen images would show the new image immediately, followed by a transition animation from the previous image to the new image.
  8. We fixed an issue where launching an app from another app while in Tablet mode no longer launched it side by side, and instead launched it fullscreen (for example, when launching a web link from the MSN News app).

What is not working for Windows 10 Insider Build 14959 for PC?

Currently reported, there are two know issues.

  1. Internet Explorer crashing often during launch and working.
  2. Third party Antivirus application might not get updates and might not behave properly.

As we are warning you always, this is also a unfinished product, only available for Insiders, you must be familiar with the risk or formatting your Computer in case you need to roll back to stable version and have proper and correct installation disk as well as serial key.

Also, Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14959 for Mobile which have some major changes and some things broken also. Read the source of this post at Windows Experience Blog for full list.
